DO I NEED TO GET AN EORI NUMBER?

Estimated reading time: < 1 min

Following the attacks of 11 September 2001, the European Commission and the Member States decided to put in place a system aimed at securing the trade flows into and out of the European Union. With this objective, the “Safety and Security Amendment” of the Community Customs Code established a database of unique numbers to identify each economic operator that has relations with the customs administrations of the European Union.

The EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number is used for the identification of economic operators with the customs authorities.

A Hong Kong company can therefore obtain an EORI number from the customs service where they carry out their first transaction.
